For the 20th year, area Sertoma organizations are once again coordinating and hosting the largest Fireworks display on the Gulf Coast over Pensacola Bay on Saturday, July 4th, 2009, at 9:00pm. There will be activities throughout the day, from 11:00am until 6:30pm, at Seville Square to include a FREE Children’s Area with inflatables and pony rides, Arts and Crafts vendors, Food vendors, and live entertainment on the gazebo stage beginning at 11:00am. The Sertoma Clubs of Pensacola will also be collecting any type/condition of used hearing aids. They will be re-cycled or given to needy individuals in our community. People can drop them off at the Sertoma Booth. Sertoma will also be accepting monetary donations for the new Audiology Clinic, a joint venture between the school district and Sertoma. People can get more information at the Sertoma booth. At 7:30pm there will be a FREE concert featuring Junior Brown (www.juniorbrown.com), a fabulous group from Austin, Texas that people won’t want to miss! The festivities will culminate with the fireworks show over Pensacola Bay, synchronized with music broadcast on Cat Country FM 98.7. This year’s music for the Fireworks is themed around Pensacola’s 450th celebration, with selections representing each of the five flags which have flown over our city in the last 450 years. |

Founded in 1912, Sertoma (SERvice TO MAnkind) now exists in Canada, Puerto Rico, and the United States. Every year Sertoma clubs raise more than $20 million for local community service projects, as well as grants and scholarships. Sertoma’s primary service project is to assist those individuals with hearing, speech, and language disorders. In addition to this focus, Sertoma also supports and sponsors community projects to further freedom and democracy, local youth, and many other community-based needs as determined by each individual club. The Mission Statement of Sertoma International is: Sertoma exists for the high and noble purpose of SERvice TO MAnkind by communication of thoughts, ideas and concepts to accelerate human progress in health, education, freedom and democracy. The true meaning of this statement is fully embraced by the Sertoma Clubs in Pensacola. In the last 12 months alone Sertoma has donated over $50,000.00 to community organizations such as The Children’s Home Society, Sacred Heart School Morning Star Program, Westgate Elementary, the YMCA Youth Sports Program, the Hearing Aid Bank, the Epilepsy Foundation, United Cerebral Palsy, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northwest Florida, Junior Achievement, Child Guardians, Inc., and many others. In addition to the financial donations to groups and organizations, area Sertoma Clubs have played an integral role in a number of local events. This is the 18th year that area Sertoma clubs have worked together on the Fourth of July Celebration and Fireworks Presentation for the enjoyment of all Pensacola residents and guests. Area Sertoma groups started the Speech and Hearing Board—a group developed to provide hearing services and equipment for individuals that otherwise could not afford assistance of this type. With all the financial support and donations Sertoma provides to the community, where does this money come from? Local Sertoma Clubs have a number of fundraisers throughout the year, including Hog Fest, Five Flags Sertoma Reverse Raffle, Art Auctions, and many others. Sertoma is truly a “Giving-Based” organization, and Pensacola should be very proud of the contributions area clubs make to the community in the form of donations, volunteer hours, and all-around good will.
